About
I’m an award-winning freelancer working in the literature and culture sector, with a specialty in campaigns and publishing. My background is in journalism and digital community building.
I’m Heather.
I am one half of the award-winning indie publisher 404 Ink alongside Laura Jones-Rivera. The publisher was launched in 2016 and around sixty publications and a few hundred writers later, we are closing up in Summer 2026. Together we have written a book of our time running the company - Publisher Not Found - towards the funding of a 404 Ink Bursary, which will launch in 2026, to pay it forward to small presses.
I’m also a co-founder of graphic novel agency One Shot Studios, with other freelance roles including Publishing and Campaigns Manager at The Terry Pratchett Estate, running Good Omens HQ on behalf of the Estate, launching the official Black Mirror graphic novel series, and supporting various newsletters in content development.
I’ve edited a number of books, ranging from developmental to proofreading, and also co-created the official Good Omens trading card game, launched in tandem with the official graphic novel. Other side quests have included running craft commerce stores, building writer databases, covering general elections and referendums for live TV, writing educational material and running active music fansites and magazines.
I’ve previously worked across publishing at organisations including Publishing Scotland, Scottish Book Trust and the Saltire Society, was Books Editor at The Skinny magazine and have programmed numerous book festivals. In a previous life I also worked in journalism, working with outlets such as Rock Sound, Ticketmaster and Sky News, on everything from gigs to politics. In this previous life, I interviewed a lot of my favourite bands and felt infinitely cooler than I do now.
I work across publishing, campaigns, copywriting, commerce, and consultancy, amongst other services.
