I'm Heather, I'm an award-winning freelancer in the creative industries based in Edinburgh. I won the London Book Fair Trailblazer's Award in 2017, for those 'blazing a trail through their 20s' in the publishing industry; I was also named one of The Drum's 50 Under 30, for those 'shaking up' the digital and marketing industry. I was named The Saltire Society Emerging Publisher of the Year and in the Young Women's Movement 30 Under 30, as well as the inaugural FutureBook40 list for publishing innovators.
I'm one half of indie publisher 404 Ink, and books editor at The Skinny. I freelance a lot of services, which you can find out about on the creatively titled section 'Freelance services' - primarily marketing, editorial, digital and events. I was formerly co-chair of the Society of Young Publishers Scotland, and coordinator of Scot Lit Fest, Scotland's virtual book festival.
I graduated from the University of Stirling with a BA (Hons) in Journalism and MLitt in Publishing Studies (Distinction, winner of the Routledge Prize for Most Distinguished Student).
I'm all about books and rock music, and find dogs particularly excellent. I speak at a lot of events, including at the Edinburgh International Book Festival alongside Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, and acclaimed Turkish novelist Elif Shafak, discussing women under public scrutiny, which was streamed on the BBC.
